Life as I Remember It
People ask me why I call my website Allegedly True Stories.
“Aren’t the stories true?”
“It’s life as I remember it.” I say. Stories are like that. Every story comes from someone’s perspective.
Dave Barry says, “After you’ve heard two eyewitness accounts of an accident, it makes you wonder about history.”
Funny, but also true. Everyone sees things differently.
My oldest brother will tell a story at one of our family get-togethers, and my younger brother and I will look at each other and ask, “What was he smoking?”
So my younger brother will tell the same story in a totally different way, and the other two of us will laugh and say, “What are you talking about? You weren’t even born yet.”
Psychologists say that memories can change and distort over time. Sometimes new experiences, feelings, or information can be added that never actually happened.
Which perfectly describes the problem my brothers have.
That’s why I decided to start this web page. I believe it’s important to accurately preserve the true stories for generations to come. My stories are short—two to three pages. They’re usually funny and/or nostalgic and they are absolutely, 100% true.
I allege.
